Topic 42 : Presence of 20 out of 22 Shrutis in Ancient Musical Scales


Dr. Vidyadhar Oke   Actually, these are not anyone's Shrutis. They belong to every musician, every student, every teacher, and every performer in India. Actually, 20 of these were known in other civilizations for centuries ! (Refer to following table)

Only R1 and M2 were not used in any of these scales.

The above table shows that many of the Shrutis are actually identical to the musical notes documented by the ancient Pythagorean, Mesopotamian and Just Intonation scales.
