Topic 58: Common Musical Scales and their equivalent in Indian Classical Music

The following table describes an easy way for Indian Classical Music students and teachers to understand various musical scales used in the world.

A Scale is a selected group of musical notes within a Saptak with a typical sequence, in which a composition is made.

The near equivalent for that in Hindustani Classical Music is a Raga. Raga however, is not merely a group of swaras, but has various other characteristics which we all know. This table will therefore only give the basic near equivalent Swaras / Ragas as used in a particular musical scale.
